Using the website at www.geocaching.com, just enter the zip code for the area you are in (Lake City's zip is 81235), and you'll get a list of the geocaches that are hidden in that area. Each cache has a name, coordinates for your GPS device, and hints in case you need them.
There are over 1.3 million geocaches hidden all over the world, on all seven continents. There are many geocaches hidden in Lake City and the surrounding areas. The coordinates will direct you to close proximity of the geocache. From there, you need to use your finding skills to discover the cache. Geocaches are usually some kind of weather-proof container, and can range in size from large plastic boxes, to metal ammo cans, to miniature boxes. Inside the geocache you will usually find a log book and a variety of trinkets. Sign in to the log and take a trinket, replacing it with another item of equal or greater value. Replace the geocache in the exact spot where you found it. Then log in again to geocaching.com and record your experience. |
